A Schoolhouse In The Jungle

A 4-day walk to school - or your own school building?

The children of Maruma, in the upper Kora valley in Papua, rejoiced when a schoolhouse was built for them in their own village!

In these valleys, which are cut off from civilization and can only be reached by walking for days or by helicopter, it is neither standard practice nor a simple matter for a child to attend school. What a great opportunity for these children to learn to read and write!

A team of joiners was flown in to Maruma by helicopter; they built the school in one month.
